Memorable Visit to the Vatican

From May 9-10, 2006, a group of YWCA Officers, led by YWCA President, Monica Zetzsche, and YWCA General Secretary, Musimbi Kanyoro, traveled to Rome for a visit to the Vatican, the highlight of which was an audience with Pope Benedict XVI in Saint Peterís Square.
The visit included discussions with the Pontifical Councils for Promoting Christian Unity and for Justice and Peace and the Leadership of Womenís Catholic Organisations within the Pontifical Council for the Laity. A meeting was also held with the International Union of Mother Superiors. YWCA participants were encouraged to learn that their concerns in areas such as HIV and AIDS, trafficking and violence towards women and girls were similar to those of the Vatican. The visit was made possible thanks to the kind efforts of Monseigneur John Mutiso Mbinda.
